Commencement 2015

UMass Medical School awarded 233 degrees, including two honorary degrees, Sunday, May 31, at its 42nd Commencement exercises, held on the campus green.

“It is clear to all that you are here for a reason,” Chancellor Michael F. Collins told graduates of the School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Graduate School of Nursing. “Please continue to be guided by the idealism that you brought with you to campus. Rebuff indifference wherever you see it and whenever you encounter it. Take your enormous intellect and gifts and bring them to change the course of the history of disease. As you do so, please remember that your simple acts of kindness may be the images that will last forever.”

The Art of Observation: Critical Skills for Health Care Professions was held Wednesday Night 3-25-15 at UMass Worcester, Graduate School of Nursing, hosted by Sigma Theta Tau Iota Phi Chapter-at-Large.  Over 90 nursing students, faculty and iota phi members attended the program which was designed to improve visual literacy and diagnostic skills.  Dr.'s Welu and Stefan have collaborated locally, nationally and internationally to promote the teaching of observation skills as part of a well-rounded education in the health care professions.  Terri Reed is a UMass GSN Alumni ('97, '05) is the catalyst that brought this program to the sigma leadership. It was a stimulating and thoughtful event!
