Scientists love learning new things, so when Loree Griffin Burns, PhD'98 found out about Surtsey, a tiny island off the coast of Iceland that’s just 50 years old, she knew she had to learn more. As with several topics that have caught her attention, her research led to a book. “Life on Surtsey: Iceland’s Upstart Island” was released Nov. 14, on the 54th anniversary of the island’s birth. It is her sixth book, with four of them being part of the Scientists in the Field series published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
