Award Criteria for UMMSAA Distinguished Alumnus Service Award

The nominee should embody one or more of the criteria below, which are based on the mission, values and vision of UMMS.

Award Criteria - EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

  • Recognition as an outstanding educator through clinical instruction and didactic lectures as recognized by local and national societies, colleagues, residents and students

UMMS Value or Vision

  • Promote academic opportunity and scholarship through high-quality, affordable educational programs for the training of physicians, nurses, advanced practitioners, researchers, and educators
  • Design and implement innovative educational methods to train educators, clinicians, and scientists to meet the future health care workforce needs in Massachusetts and/or the United States
  • Develop educators, clinicians and scientists who are equipped to become the next generation of outstanding leaders in health care
  • Develop and capitalize on the strengths of all staff who provide the operational support for an academic health sciences center


Award Criteria - EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH

  • Recognition for outstanding accomplishments in biomedical or clinical research to understand causes of disease, improving diagnostic tools, prevention or treatment of disease

UMMS Value or Vision

  • Nurture ongoing progress in the basic sciences to fuel breakthrough discoveries that will transform the practice of medicine


Award Criteria - OUTSTANDING SERVICE

  • Recognition for outstanding professional accomplishments reflecting extraordinary dedication, and effectiveness

UMMS Value or Vision

  • Achieve excellence in the practice of safe, high-quality care
  • Maintain integrity in decision-making and all actions held to the highest ethical standards


 Award Criteria - HIGH LEVEL OF COMMITMENT TO SCHOOL AND PROFESSION
  • Recognition of career-long dedication to further the academic, research and patient care missions of UMMS

  • Emphasize the common good as an institutional focus, exercised both internally and externally
  • Foster collegiality as we work through a shared vision for the common good


Award Criteria - MEDICAL INNOVATION

  • Recognition of significant contributions in research, design or development of products, educational methods or health care delivery systems to improve clinical outcomes

UMMS Value or Vision

  • Add to scientific advancement by embracing creative thinking and innovation to yield an understanding of the causes, prevention, and treatment of human disease for the pursuit of knowledge and the benefit of people everywhere


Award Criteria - COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Recognition of enduring dedication in leadership or voluntary service to improve the wellbeing of others, inside or outside of medicine

UMMS Value or Vision

  • Improve health and enhancing access to care for people within our community, the commonwealth, and the world


Award Criteria  - TEACHING IN PRIMARY CARE

  • Recognition of exemplary mentoring in inspiring the next generation of primary care clinician-teachers

  • Leverage our primary care education program to drive the future of integrated care delivery

Award Criteria - LEADERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE ADVOCACY

  • Recognition of accomplishments aligned with UMMS vision and values to improve access to health care and outcomes of populations

  • Partner to create and optimize health care initiatives that improve the health of the communities we serve
