Kent Lewandrowski, MD’86 P’20, has been voted in as president of the UMass Medical School Alumni Association for a two-year term, which began on July 1, 2017. He succeeds Irvin N. Heifetz, MD’79 R’82, who served as president of the Alumni Association for 24 years.

“It’s an honor to be appointed to this notable position and I am so pleased to be able to support an institution that gave me so much,” said Dr. Lewandrowski. “I have big shoes to fill, as Irv Heifetz was—and remains—a driving force with our alumni. I look forward to working alongside him and the other members of the Association.”

Lewandrowski served on the UMMS Alumni Association’s Board of Directors for one year, where he contributed to the Programs Committee. A summa cum laude graduate of Connecticut College, he completed a residency and chief residency in pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and received an honorary master’s degree in medical science from Harvard Medical School in 2012.

Lewandrowski is the associate chief for laboratory and molecular medicine at the MGH Pathology Service; medical director of MGH Point of Care Testing; chair of the MGH Department of Pathology Quality and Safety Committee; and is a Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. He is also the editor-in-chief of Point of Care: The Journal of Near Patient Testing Technologies.
